Pirates at the Gas Pump

Pirates at the Gas Pump

Something smells

If anyone has been to the gas pump lately, you have already discovered a painful truth… gas prices are heading north with no relief in sight. With spring and summer right around the corner, it is likely that prices will only continue to rise. While some blame the conflict in the Middle East for the current surge in oil prices, others blame the government for banning (or not allowing permits) to drill here in trhe U.S.  All I know is that someone is making a lot of money off of the fear that there is an oil shortage, whether it is a reality or not.

A few years ago we faced the same problem and we (the Parrot Island Band: a Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band), posted a song that I had recently written (Pirates at the Gas Pump) on CNN's I report page. It was picked up by various radio and Internet sites. By the end of the year it was on the CNN I Report year end special, and gas prices had gone down substantially. Another Trop Rock musician, Brent Burns, also wrote a  song about the so called "crisis"… Pain at the Pump, and this song also became a hit with those who were frustrated with oil prices.

With our current "oil crisis" still in its early stages, we can expect to see prices climbing not only at the gas pump, but also at the grocery store as well. When all has subsided, we will discover that oil companies will have made record prices and as another election season begins to raise funds, we will most likely  find that politicians have received some pretty hefty contributions from these oil companies… hmmm

Oh (oil) well, time for Brent to break out his song again and the Parrot Island Band will do its part, and maybe… just maybe, gas prices will begin to moderate… until then, pull out some Trop Rock music and relax!
